SHORT BIO

Josh Rawlings is one of the most in-demand pianists in PNW today. He's a GRAMMY-Nominated and Platinum Album Award winning recording artist & composer. Rolling Stone described his piano playing on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Single Downtown as a “bombastic, theatrical piano breakdown.” He’s also the featured pianist on their powerful marriage equality rouser Same Love.

Josh has toured the United States and Europe with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Modern Soul sensation Allen Stone and performed with numerous award-winning groups including Industrial Revelation, dubbed affectionately by The Stranger Weekly The Best Band in Seattle.

He currently makes his living as an active live performer, studio musician and composer living in Seattle, WA. Josh is a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts where he studied under the tutelage of esteemed musicians including jazz pianist Randy Halberstadt, Brazilian pianist/composer Jovino Santos Neto, multi-instrumentalist/composer Denney Goodhew, and both jazz pioneers/legends - saxophonist Hadley Caliman & trombonist Julian Priester.

Quotes

“Rawlings is a romantic, thoughtful player, and his sidemen are right there throughout. He’ll be a force to reckon with.”
- Peter Monaghan (Earshot Jazz)

“(The Josh Rawlings Trio) is especially fun, with lots of dissonant harmonies and dramatic hesitations over propulsive drumming…all the entertainment you need.”
- Rachel Dovey (Seattle Sound)

"He may very well be the best studio musician in all of Seattle."
- Ryan Lewis (Multi-GRAMMY Winning Producer)

“There are moments where you sound like you're channeling Brad Mehldau.”
- Randy Halberstadt (Jazz Pianist & Educator)

“Josh Rawlings’ sparkling, luscious chords (affectionately dubbed “kraws” by those in the community familiar with the man) are the trademark sounds for the group The Teaching. [The Teachings’ Music is] Effortlessly enjoyable, but not wanting for intelligence.”
- Peter Walton (Earshot Jazz)

“You guys are better than BINGO!”
- Resident at Mary Schwartz Summit Retirement Community
